In 1996, Anne Coombs founded the Asheville Music School at 250 Charlotte Street. Paul Thorpe assumed ownership of the school in 2002. 2010 was a year of great change for the school. Anne Coombs and Paul Thorpe partnered to open the Asheville Music School West at 1408-F Patton Avenue and the location at Charlotte Street moved downtown to 101 South Lexington Avenue.
With the sudden, tragic death of Paul Thorpe in December of 2011 this has meant a time of transition for our schools. Anne Coombs has bought and will exclusively own and run The Asheville Music School West under a new business name. Our downtown location has been purchased by a group of instructors and will continue as The Asheville Music School.
